Feng Shui Your Summer

Jul. 3, 2008 |

The warm weather has us spending lots of time outdoors—but you can improve your health by making changes inside your home, too! Phil Jannetta, author of the Feng Shui booklets Prospering Over the Seasons, shared his summertime tips:

Support circulation. “Summer is associated with fire-like energy,” says Jannetta, which highlights your heart and circulatory system. Encourage good circulation by de-cluttering hallways and ensuring entry ways are bright and open.

Avoid burnout. Our schedules get packed this time of year, leading to burnout. “But you can drain away some of summer’s intensity by adding something distinctly feminine in the southwest area of your home,” says Jannetta, such as delicate artwork or some flowers.

Enhance clarity. Summer’s bright daylight supports clear thinking, which can make you more productive. Bring more light to your clarity by cleaning windows (use equal parts vinegar and water) and replacing burnt-out light bulbs (with CFLs!).

Slimming down this summer? “Avoid the colors red, orange and purple in your kitchen since they encourage eating,” recommends Leigh Kubin, host of Feng Shui Your Way. Instead, decorate in blue or green. (But remember to eat all the colors in the rainbow!)
